Show up, that's it!
In the spirit of Ollie the OOPSKEYS monster, and talking about being successful with what God has given you; I wanted to explore one of the more simple concepts I believe correlates to huge amounts of personal value and success. The concept of showing up. Yes, that is the entire concept, simply to SHOW UP. So what do you get if you show up? Well, for starters, it is the very first action required to build your learning curve. How can you learn if you don't show up? So simply by getting your physical body and mind to work, school, church, or your sports team you are showing up to "the arena" where your learning curve can be built. BUT just as important as showing up to the arena is staying in the arena. By consistently showing up, we are building something called experience. Experience is how the learning curve is developed, as we are observing "what is working" and "what is not". Also through experience we begin to observe what we are skilled at, "what comes natural", what interests us, and what challenges us. By showing up consistently we build our learning curve through experience and can thus build the personal skills that create success. Showing up, also does something else extremely valuable for the individual. It allows you to create a track record for yourself. When your team sees you show up every day, they begin to associate your behaviors with adjectives such as consistency and dependability; both qualities required for teams to be successful. How do you stay on the team if you don't show up? Or how does a team win if its team members don't show up? So simply by showing up you can create a track record for yourself that can be used to fill needs on a team, create team wins, and attain more personal value. All of these enormous benefits can be obtained by simply taking the action of showing up. There are many more benefits to "showing up", but it is the root action that is so important. Many things in life you can not control, but your ability to SHOW UP will always be up to you!
